Jennifer Oomen graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto in 1999. She went on to complete the Massage Therapy Program at Centennial College in 2002. She has taught at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, and worked at several clinics, a Premier Spa of Ontario, and in Private Practice. Jen is a member of her professional association (RMTAO) and takes ongoing continuing education courses that focus on her clients’ current needs. She believes the body naturally wants to get back to a state of balance, and uses a variety of Swedish Massage and Deep Tissue techniques to focus her treatments on addressing her clients concerns, also while trying to look at the larger picture of what might be going on-correcting imbalances and re-educating. She loves working with families, and pre and post-natal clients. Jen enjoys empowering her clients to take responsibility for their health, and being a partner with them on their journey towards wellness. Jen is a certified Bioflex Laser Therapist.

Rika Thauvette, Certified Reflexologist & Hot Stone Practitioner. Rika is a certified Reflexologist with the Ontario College of Reflexology and a Hot Stone Practitioner. Rika is also certified in Bioflex Laser Therapy.

Rika offers a unique treatment to her clients that involves the combination of Reflexology with hot stones. Reflexology is a focused pressure technique, usually directed at the feet. The treatment starts by using hot stones to massage the lower legs relieving any tension in the calf muscles while enhancing the energy flow through pressure on each reflex points. The heat from the stones helps to relax the muscles in the feet allowing to penetrate deeper into the reflex area. The warmth deeply relaxes and soothes, melting away tension and anxiety restoring balance of body & mind. Rika also provides a hot stone neck and shoulder treatment that eases daily strains and tension. Rika's clients can experience deep relaxation feeling completely refreshed and rejuvenated.

Rika's goal is to provide a unique Reflexology experience to patients as well as be an integral practitioner in the holistic health community of Peterborough and the Kawarthas.

Chiropractic Care
You may be wondering... how can the same chiropractic treatment which effectively treats my back pain also optimize my health? The answer can be found by looking into the relationship between the spine and the nervous system.

As you may already know, the nervous system is the master controller of all living cells, tissues and organs; orchestrating and coordinating all cellular functions. The spinal column encases the nervous system (spinal cord and nerve roots) and is responsible for its protection.

Because of this intimate relationship, biomechanical and structural problems in the spinal column can irritate parts of the enclosed nervous system. This irritation can result from noxious inflammatory biochemicals released during tissue injury or may result from direct mechanical pressure. In either case, the functioning of the nervous system is negatively influenced as is the functioning of the cells, tissues and organs which are supplied by the affected nerve(s).

The resulting ailment(s) depends on the cells, tissues and organs affected as well as the extent of nervous system compromise.

In short, because the body's innate recuperative powers are affected by and integrated through the nervous system, correcting spinal abnormalities which irritate the nervous system can lead to a number of favorable results in patients suffering from various, seemingly non-spinal health conditions.
